Auburn Football: Why Gene Chizik should be fired

With the loss to Vanderbilt Auburn falls to 1-6 on the year.

Auburn has gone from a National Championship winner two years ago to almost dead last in the SEC and the nation this year. That cannot happen for such a historical program like Auburn University.

Gene Chizik has almost lost control of this team. It’s time for him to go.

Chizik has had 4 seasons to turn this program into a winning tradition. He has been unable to do that. Over his four year span Chizik is 31-14. Most of those wins came when the greatest college football player ever was on the team.

Now we can’t discredit Chizik for winning the national championship, but we can ask how it is possible for someone to go 14-0 and then two years later start the season 1-6. That doesn’t happen.

Without Newton, Chizik is 17-14 at Auburn. That’s unacceptable. Auburn is a top 15 program nationally and deserves a winning program.

Chizik has had the talent. All of his recruiting classes have been top 10 according to Rivals.com.  So why isn’t he winning?

Yes, I know that not every player is going to pan out and be great in college, but there should be at least enough to put a winning team on the field. There is defiantly enough talent that Chizik shouldn’t be 1-6 this year.

Last off season Chizik went out and hired two new coordinators. I knew coming into this year that it would be hard to dominate with the complete makeover, but I didn’t expect this.

Auburn is one of the worst if not the worst in most offensive categories. Even though the defense is better than last year, it’s still not where Auburn’s defense should be.

Auburn needs to fire Chizik, because this is not what Auburn is about. As fans we want to win, and right now Gene Chizik is not the man for the job.

Auburn University has tradition, and that tradition in winning. Auburn needs to do a long and thorough search for the next coach.
