Auburn Recruiting Update – Tigers Miss on Trenton Thompson

Unfortunately, the only news to report in this week’s Auburn Recruiting Update is bad news for the Tigers. It was a long shot, but learning that Albany, Georgia defensive tackle Trenton Thompson has committed to Georgia was still disappointing for Auburn Tigers fans to hear Tuesday.

Thompson, considered the top defensive tackle prospect in the nation by ESPN and others, made his announcement Tuesday evening at Westover High School, where Thompson will play his senior season this year. He is ranked as the nation’s second overall player in the 247Sports Composite.

Adding the 6-foot-4, 292-pound defensive lineman would have been nice for the Tigers, who currently have only one D-Lineman committed for 2015. Instead, Auburn is reportedly the runner-up for Thompson’s. Other schools in the mix included Alabama, Clemson and Florida. Of course, the decision is not officially final as Thompson cannot sign with Georgia (or any school) until February.

The news gave Georgia a boost in the 247Sports Recruiting Team Rankings, sending the Bulldogs up six spots to number eight in the nation. Auburn is currently ranked one spot higher at number seven – and fourth in the SEC – based on the 19 players that are verbally committed to the Tigers.

The players currently verbally committed to Auburn include:
