When he makes it to campus in 2015, don’t expect the bright lights to affect Auburn football commit Kerryon Johnson. The Madison Academy (AL) senior had his national coming out party Friday night on ESPNU.
In the season’s first game, Johnson led Madison Academy in a rematch of the 2013 Alabama 3A state championship game against Leeds High School. A nail-biter, the outcome was not decided until Leeds hit a 27-yard field goal as time expired for a 27-24 victory. The field goal snapped Madison Academy’s 25-game winning streak.
And while Johnson is understandably upset that his team lost, Auburn fans are happy with what they saw from the (hopefully) future Tiger. Johnson finished the game with 22 carries for 203 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught one pass for 19 yards and produced a highlight reel worthy play by hurdling a Leeds player (that actually turned out to be against the rules).
According to his ESPN.com recruiting page, Kerryon Johnson is the 29th ranked player in the ESPN300. He is the top rated player in the state of Alabama, and the fourth best athlete in the nation. Johnson is verbally committed to Auburn and currently holds scholarship offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, USC and Vanderbilt.
