Quarterback Kellen Mond’s value to the Auburn football recruiting class and coaching staff remains the same. Simply put, there is no more important uncommitted player to the 2017 class than the dual-threat Mond (No. 49/ESPN) out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

And it isn’t just because of his adept ability playing the game’s most pivotal position. It’s also because of the very real potential for a domino effect of sizable proportions that his commitment could — and almost definitely will — put in motion.

Just a couple of potential players that could ultimately follow his lead include wide receivers Hezekiah Jones (No. 113/ESPN) and — despite a surprising, sudden pledge to LSU — Jhamon Ausbon (No. 41/247Sports).

As has been the case since Mond withdrew his Baylor pledge following Art Briles’ firing, it’s going to be a photo finish between Auburn and Texas A&M for the signal-caller.

The decision is, at most, days away. Mond was scheduled to make a final decision before the month of June concluded, and that appears to in fact be the case.

It will be the comfort Mond feels in the Auburn offensive system, in the young talent at the receiver position the Tigers signed in the 2016 Auburn football recruiting class that will grow with him, and in the Auburn coaching staff versus all the supposed benefits that could come later in life to a highly touted Texas kid — Mond and his family live in San Antonio — who “stays home” and plays for A&M.

We don’t have long to wait.
