Week 13: Auburn Football Players in the NFL – Jerraud Powers Powering Baltimore Defense

Here we take a weekly look at the performances of Auburn football players in the NFL in week 12 of play with former conerback Jarraud Powers shining. 

It’s time to be afraid of the Kansas City Chiefs.

They’re an organization that is playing fully on emotion and preparation, fueling off of talent that has been dormant for quite some time. If there’s anything to learn from competitive sports, it’s that playing with a purpose drives winners.

Eric Berry returned to Atlanta for the first time since receiving chemotherapy for his Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2015. Berry not only led the charge for the Chiefs to start the game, returning an interception for a touchdown, he also won the game with a returned 2-point conversion for the . The emotions which drove Berry in Atlanta were present for everyone to see, and he made a powerful Falcons’ offense sit and watch what he was capable of.

All emotions aside, the Chiefs will play the Oakland Raiders for the lead in the AFC West on Thursday Night Football in a game that could determine a spot in the AFC Championship in January. Linebacker Dee Ford will be returning from an injury suffered some weeks ago, and after having some limited action on Sunday it is assumed he will be returning to his usual workload against the Raiders.

Here’s how the rest of Auburn’s former players fared in week 12 of the NFL:

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens have emerged from the ashes of the 2015 season with a revitalized roster going into week 12. Cornerback Jerraud Powers had five tackles and an interception in the 38-6 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, and the Ravens control their playoff destiny in an AFC North that exhibits the Cleveland Browns and the salty Cincinnati Bengals. It’s too bad they have the New England Patriots coming up next.

Carolina Panthers

It’s a bit odd to consider that Cam Newton wasn’t allowed to start for not following dress protocol – a protocol that states he must wear a necktie to the game. Who in their right mind would penalize a reigning MVP – who has consistently worn a fairly different wardrobe on a weekly basis – for not wearing the right clothes? Despite not playing the first snap, which led to an interception and a field goal for the Seattle Seahawks, it didn’t play into how terribly Newton performed. Completing less than 50 percent of his passes for the third straight week, Newton had 182 yards through the air and one beautiful touchdown. If flash and style meant anything, maybe the Panthers wouldn’t have lost 40-7.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals improved their record to 4-7-1 after meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles for a 32-14 win. Linebacker Karlos Dansby had five tackles with defensive tackle Pat Sims’ three to shut down a struggling Eagles offense. Winning the rest of the games on the season is now necessary for the Bengals to be relevant at all for the playoff picture.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville kicked off week 12 against the Denver Broncos, which featured a rookie quarterback backing up another rookie quarterback. Jaguar running back Corey Grant had one rush for two yards, with defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks having three tackles with a sack. This buildup performance for a better 2017 season was not enough in the 20-10 loss to the Broncos.

Kansas City Chiefs

Watching Kansas City Chief football has been just has dramatic as watching the Oakland Raiders, the Detroit Lions or the San Diego Chargers this season. Every single game has had its own narrative, and each game is determined by emotionally fueled rosters and willpower. Linebacker Dee Ford returned from injury for a stunted impact against the Atlanta Falcons, having just one tackle in the 29-28 win.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Wide receiver Sammie Coates was not present on the offensive side of the field in the 24-14 win over the New York Giants. Despite being held out for recovery of a hand injury, he did, however, record two tackles. It is hoped that Coates will be returning in the weeks to come for a Steelers push into the playoffs.

San Diego Chargers

Offensive tackle King Dunlap continues to help his sophomore running back, who totaled 84 rushes on 17 carries with a touchdown. Dunlap is continuing his Pro Bowl style of play, and is making a name for his collegiate-prosperous running back who is finally starting to make a difference on the field.
