The Tigers have had two weeks to recover from their  loss to Florida and face their toughest road test this weekend as they travel to Death Valley.

It’s no secret that Auburn’s performance against Florida was abysmal. The Tigers were 2-14 on third down and freshman quarterback Bo Nix threw three picks including one critical interception in the red zone. The Gators generated nearly 400 yards of total offense against the Tigers and dominated the time of possession.

It was bewildering to watch the same offense that put nearly 600 yards of total offense against Mississippi State the week before get completely shut down. Even crazier is there was no package for Joey Gatewood and Florida native Anthony Schwartz barely played. Malzahn utilized Boobee Whitlow who had 18 carries for 81 total yards, but Whitlow suffered a knee injury late in the game and is out for 4-6 weeks as he recovers from surgery.

Now what? Auburn rotated its stacked carousel of running backs against Arkansas and we saw great promise from the young talents of DJ Williams and Harold Joiner. The Tigers rushed for 246 yards against Arkansas and proved to everyone that depth at running back does not stop at Boobee, but what will they do against LSU?

Malzahn showed more promise out of his playbook against the Razorbacks when he stunned fans with Nix throwing a slant to Schwartz on the opening drive. AN INTERMEDIATE PASSING GAME EXISTS? This is something that will absolutely need to be utilized against LSU. Nix will need to be extremely cautious in his reads as he faces off against skilled LSU defensive backs.

After suffering through the loss against Florida, every Auburn fan has a mental shortlist of things they would like to see against LSU. My curiosity was piqued, so I decided to ask Auburn fans for their insight.

You will not be disappointed.

My favorite part about rgtill77’s response is the suggestion to put Derrick Brown on the ball at the goal line. If Pat Dye sent Bo over the top, Malzahn should send Derrick the Demolisher through the trenches.

Kim absolutely gets it. The playbook against LSU has to be more innovative then “up the middle, wheel route (works 40% of the time), draw, short pass, QB-sneak out of the SHOTGUN.”

I don’t know why I even bother listening to the talking heads assigned to the broadcast. I’m sticking with Stan White and Andy Burcham.

I concur Dave.

THIS. THIS. ALL OF THIS.

Auburn’s pass rush struggled against Florida’s offense. LSU is third in the country for passing yards per game averaging 368.7 yards per game. Hopefully we see our DB’s man up this weekend. Don’t give up hope, Davis.

This is where I miss Kerryon Johnson. He had an uncanny ability to read his blocks. Getting Joey Gatewood and Bo Nix involved in the run game is imperative in keeping drives alive. Can’t go three and out this weekend, gotta dominate the clock.

In the last week DJ Williams has been compared to Michael Dyer in his ability to run the ball. Dyer had two 1,000 yard seasons at Auburn before transferring to Louisville. Hopefully we see DJ carry the load against LSU, Keith.

SHOUTOUT TO BAMA FANS THAT KNOW WHAT’S UP. TURN ON THE JETS AND PLAY SCHWARTZ.

It’s the defense’s job to get off the field on 3rd down, but the offense has to help them out. Keeping drives alive and putting points on the board is the first thing that comes to mind. We have to get past 3rd and 3 to that, though.

Will Auburn answer to the fans’ wish lists this weekend against LSU? Man I hope so. Catch the good Tigers facing off against the bad at 2:30 Saturday on CBS. War Eagle.
