Auburn football head coach Bryan Harsin probably had a different picture in mind on where the Tigers would be at this moment in time on October 30th, following a Saturday night victory over Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin that was, as it would turn out, the season’s signature victory.

That, of course, would be the last victory of the regular season, and possibly of the entire 2021 calendar year.

We all know about the four straight November losses, with the final three being of the particularly painful variety due to three straight Saturdays of blowing double-digit leads.

Now, the Auburn family must keep its eyes forward on the future, which could include a Final Four appearance in basketball, but must include a step forward on the gridiron in 2022.

And that step forward only happens if Bryan Harsin and co. are up to the task on the recruiting trail.

There could be some major holes to fill if guys like Bo Nix or Tank Bigsby take to the transfer portal, with Nix giving credence to the idea in saying he was weighing his options and Bigsby dropping cryptic messages on social media. TJ Finley may be unhappy being buried on the QB depth chart too with Dematrius Davis aiming for playing time under a new offensive coordinator and Holden Geriner incoming as a 4-star freshman next season.

None of that is confirmed as of now. What is confirmed? Elijah Canion has entered the transfer portal and Demetris Robertson is departing after an extended collegiate career.

Tiger fans want change through the transfer portal, and these 3 WRs have been floated by the Auburn family as desirable targets:

Auburn football WR transfer portal target #1: Cam Johnson, Vanderbilt

First up, we have Vanderbilt’s Cam Johnson. Johnson is a grad transfer that would be immediately eligible to play in 2022, and his services would surely be welcomed on the Plains after the inconsistency of the receiving core this season.

Johnson didn’t lead the Commodores in most receiving categories this past season, finishing third in receptions (34) and receiving yards (327), though he did tie Will Sheppard with four hauls in the end zone.

He had at least one catch in every game this season, though Mississippi State and Kentucky kept him to under 10 yards. That sort of consistency–whether it features fireworks every outing or not–would be appreciated given the stone hands displayed particularly during the Georgia game.

Johnson was a highly sought after 4-star recruit out of Brentwood Academy Class of 2017, and the Tigers (under then-HC Gus Malzahn) were originally in on him during his initial recruitment period. They didn’t get a chance to offer him, just like Alabama, Tennessee, and Ole Miss, before he ended up signing with Vanderbilt, but no one is blaming him for leaving Nashville after 11 wins in four years.

Auburn football WR transfer portal target #2: Theo Wease, Oklahoma

Theo Wease missed most of the 2021 season, but in a pandemic-shortened 2020 season, he was the Reggie Wayne to Marvin Mim’s Marvin Harrison.

Wease lagged behind in touchdowns, by a wide margin might I add, as well as receiving yards. He tied Mims in catches, though, and still ended up with 530 yards and four touchdowns on 37 receptions.

The Tigers were one of many–and I mean many–teams interested in the Allen, Texas product back during his initial recruitment, and were his second to last offer before he committed to Oklahoma.

Well, as we know, Lincoln Riley didn’t commit to him, his teammates, future recruits, or the entire Sooner State, so now Wease hits the market with a chance to be the #1 option on the Plains with Demetris Robertson wrapping up his collegiate career in 2021 and no other talent on the current current roster that comes even close talent-wise.

Bryan Harsin and Eric Kiesau ought to get on the phone with the young man ASAP in order to start forming a pitch to Bo Nix not to transfer.
