Auburn Football Recruiting Update: Who’s Next
Here we take a look at how the 2017 Auburn football recruiting class is stacking up now that we are halfway through the college football season.
The 2017 Auburn football recruiting class currently ranks 14th in the country according to 247Sports with 14 total commitments.
The class is highlighted by its one 5-star commitment thus far in offensive lineman Calvin Ashley. Gus Malzahn and his staff have also received commitments from seven 4-star recruits.
There is still a lot of work to be done in this Auburn football recruiting class, but all signs point to us having another top 10 finish.

As we already mentioned, 5-star Calvin Ashley is the toast of the 2017 Auburn football recruiting class thus far. At 6-foot-6, 310 pounds he has the ability to come in and play right away as Auburn will likely lose two or three starters off the line this season.
Auburn also has commitments from two other big time offensive line recruits in Austin Troxell and Nick Brahms. This speaks to the ability that Herb Hand possesses as a recruiter.
The 2017 Auburn football recruiting class currently has three commitments from 4-star players listed as athletes.
Tray Bishop is listed at 6-foot-3, 193 pounds and will probably be used as a quarterback at Auburn. Alaric Williams is 6-foot, 195 pounds and is being recruited as a running back, but has expressed interest in playing defense.
Malcolm Askew is listed at 5-foot-10.5 and 183 pounds, which means he’s destined to play cornerback.
Rounding out the group of 4-star commits is linebacker Tadarian Moultry out of Jackson-Olin in Birmingham, Ala., and running back Devan Barrett from Tampa Catholic.
Auburn has received commitments from five 3-star recruits, which includes two safeties, an outside linebacker, another athlete and a kicker – Anders Carlson, the brother of Daniel Carlson.
Rounding out the class is 2-star long snapper Bill Taylor.
Offensive Offers
Every quarterback that Auburn has offered has already committed elsewhere, but keep in mind that Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham is still in play.
Auburn also looks to be out on a lot of the bit time running back recruits available, but they already have two 4-star commitments at that position. They are getting a lot of interest from 3-star running back Darian Felix.
Wide receiver is where Auburn has a chance to do some damage. They are near the top of the list for six different wide receiver recruits that they’ve offered, and five of them are 4-star recruits.
The most likely to commit is Brandon Martin, who actually already committed to the Tigers once before opening his recruitment back up.
Also on Auburn’s radar is Jeff Thomas, Nico Collins, Jeremiah Holloman, Henry Ruggs III and 3-star Al’dontre Davis.
If the Tigers can just pick up two commitments out of that group I’ll be happy.
Auburn has already done great work on the offensive line, but there is potential for more. They are in on 4-star offensive tackle Adrian Ealy, as well as 3-star Jordan Agasiva from Pima Community College.
Defensive Offers
As great as Auburn did at recruiting defensive lineman in 2016, we’re lacking in that area so far this year. However, there is hope as Auburn is high on the list for three 4-star defensive end recruits.
Those include Markaviest Bryant out of Georgia, Ryan Johnson out of Mobile, Ala., and Isaiah Buggs out of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
And in the interior, there are four 3-star defensive tackle recruits who have interest in Auburn.
You’d really like to see us come away with at least one of each on the defensive line.
There is still a lot to be decided at linebacker in this recruiting class. Auburn already has a couple of linebackers in the fold, but have the chance for a few more.
Four-star Nate McBride from Georgia is probably the most talented of those expressing interest. Will Ignont from Buckhorn High School is probably the most likely to commit to the Tigers though, and would be a great addition to this class.
Four other linebacker recruits to watch out for are Kenny Britt, Monty Rice, Thomas Johnston and De’Andre Wilder – not to be confused with the Heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder.
Things look pretty bleak at the cornerback spot where only 3-star recruit Russ Yeast is showing any interest. Four-star recruit CJ Avery from Mississippi is the only safety currently showing interest, but Auburn already has two commitments there.

It’s obviously still early in this recruiting cycle, but we have a pretty good idea of where things are going at this point.
Auburn can probably take on another 10 commitments, and I see about four from this list who have a good chance of joining the 2017 class soon.
