Travis Britz is a returning starter at defensive tackle. He had 37 tackles and three sacks in 2013. Britz has seven tackles and a sack so far in 2014.
Other than returning starter Jonathan Turman, the linebackers are inexperienced. Turman had 89 tackles last season, including 4.5 tackles for a loss and is the leading tackler for the team in 2014 with 15 in two games.
Mike Moore and Will Davis combined for 23 total tackles in 2013. Junior college transfer D’Vonta Derricott was expected to earn a starting role, but he has not yet. Freshman Elijah Lee leads the team with 2.5 sacks so far this year.
In the secondary, Dante Burnett is an All-Big 12 caliber performer at strong safety. The junior had 75 tackles and four interceptions in 2013 and has accumulated ten tackles through two games this season, which ranks third on the squad. Dylan Schellenberg will team with him as the free safety.
At corner, the Wildcats will rely on starters Morgan Burns and Denzel McDaniel. Burns leads KSU with three pass breakups, and has also contributed six tackles and a tackle for a loss. McDaniel has nine tackles and a sack. Fellow corner Randall Evans has been very active through two games. The senior is second on the team with 13 tackles, and has the only interception for the Wildcats.
