#44 Cameron Artis-Payne, 5-foot-11, 210 pounds, Senior, Running Back

Cameron Artis-Payne and Corey Grant have been listed as co-starters at running back for Auburn for the first two games, but it appears that listing is really just a formality at this point. Artis-Payne has run the football 42 times in the first two games of the season while Grant has carried the ball only 20 times.

  • With CAP taking the majority of the handoffs through two games, he has run for an SEC leading 289 rushing yards and four scores. The senior found the end zone three times in the first half against San Jose State last week, and he then found himself as an official candidate for the Heisman Trophy this week. Bovada, the online sports book, gave CAP 25-to-1 odds to win college football’s most prestigious award.

This week against Kansas State, we could see even more from No. 44. Artis-Payne and the Auburn Tigers will face their toughest competition of the 2014 season on the road against the 20th ranked Kansas State Wildcats. The game is expected to be close, which means Auburn will likely lean on their powerful running back.

Expect CAP to get the ball early and often so he can wear down the Wildcats. A 200-yard performance is certainly not out of the question Thursday.
