If not for some sloppy field conditions at recently renovated Kyle Field and a late interception by backup quarterback Kyle Allen, the Texas A&M Aggies may very well have covered last week against Rice. Instead, the Owls stayed within the 33-point spread, but A&M still cruised to a 38-10 victory.

  • Through three games, Texas A&M is averaging 54.3 points per game and 408.3 passing yards. Both numbers rank in the top six in the country, and the Aggies are a comfortable 3-0 on the young season.

On the other hand, SMU is off to a horrible 0-2 start. The 45-0 loss in Week 1 to defending Big 12 champion Baylor may not have been shocking, but the following week’s 43-6 shellacking at the hands of North Texas surely was. The combination of the embarrassing losses coupled with terrible offensive performances and “personal issues” led to head coach June Jones’ resignation.

Tom Mason is the interim head coach and he will lead the Mustangs in the home opener. Because of the turmoil surrounding the SMU program, and the explosive Texas A&M offense, this should be an easy cover for the Aggies, even on the road.
