Following last Thursday’s 20-14 win over Kansas State on the road, the Auburn football team will return home this Saturday for a homecoming matchup with the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Here’s a breakdown of the Louisiana Tech season to date, and the outlook for the Bulldogs for the rest of 2014.
Head Coach: Skip Holtz
The son of legendary coach and current ESPN studio analyst Lou Holtz, Skip Holtz is in his second as the head football coach at Louisiana Tech. Holtz led the Bulldogs to a 4-8 record in 2013, including a 3-5 mark in Conference USA play. Last season was the first in the conference for Louisiana Tech, which joined following the folding of the WAC in 2012.

Previously, Holtz was the head coach at UConn from 1994 to 1998 and had a record of 34-23 while the Huskies were a Division 1-AA program. Holtz then spent six seasons as an assistant at South Carolina under his father. He had also been an assistant under Lou Holtz at Notre Dame, Skip’s alma mater, from 1990-93.
In 2005, Holtz became the head coach at East Carolina, where he coached the Pirates to a 38-27 record before moving on to South Florida in 2010. Following three seasons as the head coach of the Bulls, Holtz was fired with a 16-21 record.
Following his departure in Tampa, Holtz succeeded Sonny Dykes at Louisiana Tech. Dykes left following a 9-3 2012 season to become the head coach at Cal.
