10. South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2, 2-2 SEC)

Last Week: Lost 21-20 to Missouri

Welp. After taking the lead in the SEC East and winning the right of controlling their own destiny with a victory over Georgia two weeks ago, South Carolina lost control of the division with a 21-20 home loss to Missouri. The loss dropped the Gamecocks to 2-2 in SEC play, which completely negates their win against the Bulldogs, who are now 1-1 in the league.

  • Last year, it was the Gamecocks that knocked off Missouri at home in an upset. This season, the Tigers returned the favor.

South Carolina outgained Missouri 338 to 280 and the Gamecocks’ defense allowed the Tigers to convert only two of 16 third down attempts into first downs. Carolina held a time of possession advantage of nearly 12 minutes and they also kept Maty Mauk out of the end zone for the first time this season. However, Mizzou hung around and won the game in the final minutes on Russell Hansbrough’s third touchdown.

Mike Davis ran for 104 yards and a touchdown and Dylan Thompson threw for 219 yards and a score, but it simply wasn’t enough to get the win at home. Now, head coach Steve Spurrier must find a way to rally the troops for the team’s fifth conference game of the season next week against the Kentucky Wildcats.
