I really didn’t feel good about calling for Georgia to cover last week, but did it anyway. I didn’t work out, and this week could turn out to have very similar feelings attached to it. Or maybe not.
The Bulldogs looked great again on offense last week, and running back Todd Gurley had a career day against the Vols. The Heisman candidate rushed for 208 yards and two scores as Georgia earned a hard fought game 35-32 for the team’s first SEC victory of 2014. The defense, on the other hand continues to be a work in progress.

They shouldn’t have nearly as much trouble shaking the Vanderbilt Commodores. Vandy allowed Kentucky to snap a two-year SEC losing streak last week as the Wildcats beat the Commodores 17-7 in Lexington. The only points Vanderbilt could muster came on a pick-six, which means the defense and special teams have scored more points in three SEC games this season for Vandy than the offense.
True freshman Wade Freebeck will start at quarterback once again with Patton Robinette out, and he will take aim on a Georgia defense that allowed three touchdown passes to Justin Worley last week in Athens. However, since Freebeck has only completed 20 of his 47 passes this season, and has been intercepted five times, the Bulldogs should gain some confidence Saturday.
I’m calling for Georgia to cover. Again. But I also feel much better about it this week.
