Well…. this was unexpected.
In what is, to this point, the SEC’s (and perhaps college football’s) game of the year, the 2nd-ranked Auburn Tigers face off against the 3rd-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starkville.
Auburn’s been here before. The Tigers have played in a handful of highly-ranked match-ups in recent years, winning most of them.
The surprise here, however, is Dan Mullen’s team, which has dismantled its competition so far with Heisman candidate Dak Prescott and a great front seven on defense. The Bulldogs avoided a trap at South Alabama, cruising to a 35-3 win, before dismantling LSU in Baton Rouge and crushing Texas A&M this past weekend.
Now, with Ole Miss already having defeated Alabama, the SEC West race will take a major turn this weekend when these two unbeaten national title contenders duel at Davis Wade.
ESPN’s College GameDay is on hand. CBS is broadcasting the game. This is the biggest game in Mississippi State history, by far. Will the Bulldogs break through and become SEC West favorites, or will the defending champions continue to assert themselves?
