Auburn Football Opponent Scouting Report: Mississippi State Offense
Oct 4, 2014; Starkville, MS, USA; Mississippi State Bulldogs wide receiver De
Receivers
An advantage for Mullen, Prescott, and the rest of the Mississippi State offense entering the season was the fact the team returned each of the top five receivers from a season ago. As a bonus, the best of the bunch so far was only a bit player in 2013.
De’Runnya Wilson showed flashes as a true freshman last season by hauling in 26 passes for 351 yards and three touchdowns. Through the first five games of 2014, the 6-foot-5, 215-pounder looks like a star. He’s got 14 receptions for 247 yards (17.6 average), and five TDs. The Birmingham native, who also plays a little basketball for the Bulldogs, has caught passes in four games this season.

Senior Jameon Lewis was expected to be the star, but has struggled with injuries so far. He entered 2014 as the SEC’s top returning receiver with 923 yards, 71 yards per game, and was second with 64 receptions. Lewis is used much like former Mullen protégé Percy Harvin was at Florida, and will carry the ball as well as throw it.
Lewis missed the Texas A&M win last week, and is questionable to play against Auburn, but has 15 catches for 223 yards and a touchdown this year. He’s also got three carries for 33 yards and threw a 24-yard touchdown to Dak Prescott – his fourth career TD toss. Lewis has excelled as a returner in the past as well, though he has also struggled with consistency, particularly holding on to the football.
Two Freds, Fred Brown and Fred Ross, add depth to the wide receiving corps and have 14 catches, 269 yards and three scores between them. Johnson and Johnson – wide receiver Robert and tight end Malcolm, are also productive pass catchers. Joe Morrow, a starter last year has five receptions for 93 yards and a TD.
In short, Prescott has a lot of weapons in the passing game.
