Interesting Facts

  • In both of Gus Malzahn’s seasons as head coach, Auburn’s first losses have had a lot in common: both were on the road, both came against a top ten team, both came against an SEC West opponent, both saw the Tigers fall behind 21-0 early, both saw stormy weather and both saw an Auburn comeback attempt fall a bit short. Both also saw a bye week for Auburn the following week leading up to an SEC home game at night.
  • South Carolina only has one win against Auburn, and that was a 16-14 win all the way back in 1933.
  • Auburn is the only SEC opponent South Carolina has not beaten since joining the SEC in 1992.
  • Steve Spurrier is 10-8 against Auburn. He was 10-3 as Florida’s coach, but is 0-5 against the Tigers as the Gamecocks’ coach. His South Carolina teams have lost to Auburn by a score of 179-81.
  • Since jumping out to a 20-7 lead on Auburn at Jordan-Hare in 2010, South Carolina has been outscored by the Tigers 100-37 in the last 10 and a half quarters.
  • This is the first time since 2006 that South Carolina has entered the Auburn game unranked. The Gamecocks were ranked #12 and #19 in their two meetings with Auburn in 2010 and were ranked 9th in 2011.
