Southeastern Conference foes since the league was formed in 1932, Saturday’s Auburn football matchup with Ole Miss will mark only the 39th time the two programs have met on the gridiron.
The Tigers and Rebels played only 14 times from 1928-1990 (with two meetings coming in bowl games, interestingly enough), but have dueled it out on the field every season since. Across those 24 years, Auburn has won the annual contest 19 times.
Most recently, Auburn defeated No. 24 Ole Miss 30-22 in the fifth game of the 2013 season. The game was a bit of a turning point for the Tigers.

Having lost to LSU two weeks earlier, the Auburn coaching staff retooled the offense slightly in the bye week prior the Tigers hosting Ole Miss. Newly committed to running the football first and foremost, Auburn amassed 282 rushing yards on 48 carries.
The Tigers also made great use of big defensive plays, including six sacks and two interceptions. Robenson Therezie picked off Bo Wallace late in the first quarter and raced 78 yards for a touchdown. In the second quarter, Nick Marshall scored the first of two rushing touchdowns and Auburn built a 20-3 lead.
Marshall set a career rushing record with 140 yards on just 14 carries, and despite throwing for only 93 yards on 11-for-17 passing he led an unranked Auburn football team to an upset victory. Tre Mason added 77 yards on 21 attempts and Cameron Artis-Payne produced 49 yards on only five carries.
Wallace and receiver Donte Moncrief connected for two touchdowns in the second half to pull the score to 27-22 midway through the fourth quarter, but Cody Parkey nailed a 23-yard field goal with 3:02 left in the game and the Tigers sacked Wallace twice on the Rebels’ final drive to seal the victory – the first nine consecutive wins for Auburn, leading to an SEC Championship and a spot in the BCS National Championship Game.
