In what has been a bizarre season of college football (to say the least), huge games with national title implications have become commonplace in the state of Mississippi.
Saturday night is no exception, when two one-loss powerhouses collide in a game that will boost one team’s chances at winning it all and deflate another’s (though not ruin, entirely).
Sure, it’s ignorant to say this is an elimination game. If the loser of this game were to win out, they’d still be a 10-2 SEC West team, so there’d still be a chance to sneak in the playoff discussion. But this is still a must-win game for both Auburn and Ole Miss, so expect both teams to put it all on the field on Saturday night.
The high-flying Tigers offense faces a stout Rebel defense, while Auburn’s defense and Ole Miss’ offense look to rebound from disappointing outings a week ago.
Last season, Auburn picked up a big home win over the Rebels that ultimately reversed their fortunes and led to one of the best regular season stretches in college football history. Will the Rebels return the favor this year?
