Unfortunately for Vanderbilt, this week’s game against Old Dominion marks the end of the non-conference schedule. After a humiliating 37-7 loss to Temple in the season opener, Vandy has won two in a row outside the SEC and the Commodores have their best chance to win and avoid a double-digit loss season with a win over the Monarchs.

Head coach Derek Mason will start Johnny McCrary again at quarterback, and the redshirt freshman showed some promise last week in his first start. McCrary completed 17 of 31 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns against Missouri last week, but the running game failed him and the ‘Dores could only manage 14 points.
Scoring this week should be easier. Old Dominion has allowed 40.5 points per game this season, which ranks 121st nationally among 128 FBS teams. In the last five games, the Monarchs have allowed 49.4 points per game. Those figures are music to Vanderbilt’s ears, because the Commodores rank 117th in passing yards per game, 118th in rushing, and 122nd in scoring offense.
Vandy might win (and should win), but take Old Dominion.
