Quarterbacks

It’s hard to imagine a better first career start for a quarterback than Kenny Hill had for Texas A&M in the 2014 season opener. The sophomore completed 44 of 60 passes for 511 yards with three touchdowns and did not throw an interception in the Aggies’ 52-28 upset of No. 9 South Carolina. The win made Kenny “Trill” a household name and a Heisman Trophy contender overnight.

With 2,649 passing yards, Hill is still the SEC’s leading passer and his 23 touchdown tosses are also the most in the league. However, in the by week following the loss to Alabama, Hill lost his starting job to true freshman Kyle Allen. Then, hours before kickoff against ULM, the school announced Hill had been suspended for two games – which means he will not be on the field, or even with the team, Saturday in Auburn.

Allen’s starting debut was far less impressive than Hill’s. The recent five-star recruit completed 13 of his 28 pass attempts for a measly 106 yards with a touchdown and an interception. In five appearances for the Aggies this year, Allen is 36-for-66 passing (54.5%) for 370 yards with four TDs and three interceptions.

The Arizona native is as talented as they come and many expected him to be named the starter prior to the season opener. But, he is still a true freshman and hasn’t blown anyone away with his abilities on the field thus far.
