Defensive Line
Like many teams do today, the Georgia defense utilizes a rotation of players along the defensive line and many players contribute. They also like to use a variety of different looks.

Primarily a 3-4 unit, Jeremy Pruitt will incorporate 4-3 and other unique fronts to attempt to confuse opposing offenses. In fact, the team’s official depth chart only lists two defensive line positions – end and tackle – along with four linebacker roles and five secondary positions.
As for personnel, Ray Drew got off to a rocky start under Pruitt – falling to the third-team spot at defensive end during spring practice – but has once again become a starter. He has 20 tackles, and though he has yet to record a sack in 2014, leads the defensive line with 11 QB hurries.
Junior Sterling Bailey and junior Josh Dawson also see a lot of playing time at defensive end. Bailey has 17 tackles and two pass breakups and 3.5 of Josh Dawon’s eight tackles have been behind the line of scrimmage. Dawson also scored a touchdown when he recovered a fumble in the end zone against Tennessee.
Senior defensive tackle Mike Thornton is the starter in the middle, and shares time with Toby Johnson. Thornton is the leading tackler among defensive lineman with 21. He also has half a sack. Johnson has 14 tackles, 4.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks.
