  • Collin Barber is the primary punter, though Adam Erickson will be called upon at times, particularly in “pooch” punt situations. Neither has punted for a great average this year. Barber’s 28 punts this year have gone for 39.4 yards per, while Erickson has averaged just 32.7 yards on nine punts. However, nine of Barber’s have held opponents inside the 20-yard line and eight have been fair caught. Six of Erickson’s punts landed inside the 20-yard line and three resulted in fair catches.

Isaiah McKenzie has been called the “human joystick” for his ability to make defenders miss in the open field. He used his top-end speed and athleticism to return the opening kickoff for a touchdown last week against Kentucky and he also took a punt to the house against the Wildcats (his second punt return TD this year), which made the true freshman only the 12th FBS player ever to return both a punt and kickoff for a touchdown in the same game.

McKenzie is averaging 29.7 yards per kick return and 15.1 yards per punt return. Reggie Davis contributes in the return game as well, and Todd Gurley returned a kick for a touchdown against Clemson in the season opener.
