Auburn set a school record for points in a bowl game in a 43-24 victory over Virginia in the 2011 Chick-fil-A Bowl, breaking the mark set by the 2009 squad in the Outback Bowl.
Both high-scoring performances came with Gene Chizik as Auburn’s head coach. It is interesting to note, Chizik was a perfect 3-0 in bowl games for the Tigers, the only head coach to maintain a perfect record during their tenure. Jack Meager is the only other Auburn football coach to go undefeated in bowl games with a 1-0-1 mark in the Bacardi and Orange Bowls following the 1936 and 1937 seasons.

In the Georgia Dome against the Cavaliers, Onterio McCalebb had 180 yards of total offense, including 109 on the ground with both a touchdown run and a TD catch to earn offensive MVP honors in the record-setting bowl victory.
The game was one of the last fond memories Auburn football fans have of Chizik, who was fired the following season after the Tigers stumbled to a 3-9 record. A major reason for the lack of production can be attributed to the loss of offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who left to become the head coach at Arkansas State.
With Malzahn and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee calling the plays, this season’s Auburn team has scored more than 43 points four times already and has broken the 40-point mark on three more occasions. Playing a Wisconsin team that allowed 59 points to Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game and is dealing with a coaching change, the Tigers have an opportunity to score big again.
