Of course, not all Auburn bowl records are good ones, and with a defense that has been shaky overall and downright disappointing in the second half of the regular season, there are some opponent bowl records that are in jeopardy as well.

The Tigers allowed 55 points in their last game, and have surrendered 31 points or more in each of their last six games against FBS/SEC opponents (a school record). Defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson was fired following the poor defensive performance in the Iron Bowl, and Charlie Harbison will call the defense in the Outback Bowl while new DC Will Muschamp observes bowl practices.

  • With the lack of recent success defensively and the changes on the Auburn coaching staff, plus a strong offense in their own right, it is conceivable Wisconsin scores 44 points or more January 1. Doing so would set a new Auburn opponent bowl record set by Penn State in the 1996 Outback Bowl. After all, the Badges have put up 52, 59 and 68 points in games this season.

The Badgers are led offensively by Melvin Gordon, the country’s most productive running back in 2014. Gordon has carried the football 309 times for a nation-leading 2,336 yards and 26 touchdowns. He held the FBS single-game rushing record for one week following a 408-yard performance against Nebraska, which was accomplished in only three quarters of work.

The Heisman Trophy runner-up has five games of 200-plus rushing yards this season and has scored three or more touchdowns four times. With Gordon playing his final collegiate game, he could be in store for a huge day in the Outback Bowl, and the Auburn bowl records of 213 rushing yards and three scores on the ground could be in jeopardy.
