Another prospect that will decide between Auburn and Florida on National Signing Day is Martez Ivey, the nation’s highest rated offensive line recruit.

Ivey made unofficial visits to Auburn and Florida on January 16 and 23, respectively, but took a break from the madness that is life as a five-star recruit over the weekend.

  • “Right now I would say I’m 50/50 between Florida and Auburn,” Ivey told GatorCountry.com last week. “I’m done with visits because I’m going on a cruise next weekend to the Bahamas. It kind of worked out so that I can take a break from everything, but it wasn’t planned like that.”

Understandably since he’s been out of the country, Ivey was quiet over the weekend. He is expected to break that silence on National Signing Day on ESPNU.

Right now, the Gators appear to have the edge, mostly because of playing time. Auburn is expected to sign at least four offensive linemen on Wednesday, and are expected to have at least linemen six back from the 2014 squad that have extensive playing experience. On the other hand, Florida needs Ivey to step in and play right away.

“The one thing that (Florida offensive coach Mike Summers) did tell me was that they are in a rare situation where they don’t have a lot of linemen on campus right now,” Ivey said. “He said that I have an opportunity to come in and start as a true freshman… “(head coach Jim McElwain) was telling me about all of the changes he had in mind for the program and how he was going to get Florida back on track. He is definitely going to get them back on top.”

We don’t expect Ivey to sign with Auburn, but there’s still plenty of hope.
