  • Kendrick Newton was expected to visit Auburn on “Big Boom Weekend” January 16, but instead made an official visit to Miami. The Hurricanes appeared to be the clear favorite for the Jacksonville, Florida native, but an unexpected visit over the weekend has certainly put the Tigers back on the map.

Reportedly, Newton made the trek to the Plains with his high school teammate Jeffrey Holland, a four-star linebacker and one of Auburn’s top uncommitted targets. On a side note – Holland’s unexpected visit was a pleasant surprise, and should calm concerns that he may end up elsewhere.

At 6-foot-3 and 305 pounds, Norton has ideal size to play defensive tackle and nose guard in Will Muschamp’s multiple 4-3 defense. However, there are some coaches and recruiting outlets that see him as a future offensive lineman – 247Sports ranks Norton as the 27th best guard in the country.

With four offensive linemen already committed to the 2015 Auburn recruiting class and six others with playing time returning from the 2014 squad, Norton would play defense if he signs with the Tigers.

And the odds of that are much better than they were a couple of weeks ago. According to AuburnUndercover ($), Auburn and Miami are “neck and neck” for Norton now.
