A long time Auburn commit, Darrell Williams flirted with Alabama off and on over the past year (and has had to deal with some craziness as a result), but has officially joined the 2015 Auburn football recruiting class on National Signing Day.
The depth chart is crowded at linebacker, but the 6-foot-2, 225-pounder can make a push for early playing time. In fact, he and the defensive coaching staff expects it.
“I feel like they have a great plan with coach Muschamp, coach Lance Thompson coming in,” Williams said recently. “(Muschamp) said he’s expecting me to play as a freshman and how much I play will be on me. … I’m excited to see it all come into play and work out for the best.”
Williams is already big and strong, but like all upcoming true freshmen, he has room to add weight and muscle – especially if the plan is for him to develop as a strong-side outside linebacker that plays close to the line of scrimmage and takes on tight ends, fullbacks and pulling guards. He’s good a good skill set for the position, especially as a pass rusher.
The Under Armour All-American is also quite athletic and fast for his size and has been clocked in the 40-yard dash in the 4.7-second range. Williams played at Hoover High School, so he’s been well-coached and has displayed a high football IQ as well. He’s got a bright future.
