  • A four-star linebacker from Jacksonville, Florida, Holland has been considered a heavy lead to the Tigers for quite a while. However, he was also considering the Florida Gators and Ole Miss Rebels and kept his intentions close to his vest until Wednesday morning.

“I’ve been liking Auburn,” Holland said. “It’s a family thing at Auburn. I love the atmosphere and the environment. My family loves it up there. It’s the school and the coaches.”

Holland, a 6-foot-2, 230-pounder, is ranked as the 90th best player in the 247Sports Composite. He’s considered a top ten prospect nationally among outside linebackers and a top 20 player in the Sunshine State. Earlier this year, he was split between the Tigers and Florida, but Will Muschamp’s arrival on the Plains was an expected factor in Holland’s final decision.

With Muschamp leading the defense in 2015, the Tigers will need more linebackers on the roster and on the field than they utilized under former coordinator Ellis Johnson. Muschamp will implement a multiple 4-3 defense, though he will often incorporates looks with four linebackers as well, instead of the 4-2-5 scheme Johnson preferred.

The Tigers have depth at linebacker with two starters and several top reserves returning from the 2014 unit, but Holland has the talent to contribute as a true freshman.
