  • On National Signing Day, the Tigers received a national letter of intent from Horton, a three-star guard from Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Georgia. Horton was ranked 740th overall and 80th among guards in the 247Sports Composite.

Auburn made a big move late in the recruiting process to land the 6-foot-4, 310-pound guard, who had been committed to the Gators since July 31, 2014. He made an official visit to the Plains just last weekend and had also made a visit to Tennessee.

He becomes the five offensive lineman to sign with the Tigers, joining early enrollees Bailey Sharp and Tyler Carr and new signees Marquel Harrell and Kaleb Kim. The group gives the Tigers great depth on the offensive line, which lost three starters from the 2014 unit but also returns seven players with significant playing experience.

Horton has great size and strength with a wide frame and is quicker than most would imagine when looking at him – a necessity in head coach Gus Malzahn’s offensive system that requires guards to pull often. He’s most likely a candidate to redshirt in 2015, but will have an opportunity to prove otherwise in fall camp.

Speculating, the addition of Horton likely means the Tigers will not sign Martez Ivey, the top rated offensive lineman in the country. Ivey will make his decision live on ESPNU at 10:35 AM Central. UPDATE: Ivey has signed with Florida.
