A top-50 JUCO prospect in the 247Sports Composite, Maurice Swain has an opportunity to play immediately as an interior defensive lineman. • However, the Georgia native proved he was athletic enough to play defensive end in junior college. In 2014, Swain recorded 32 tackles and 6.5 tackles for a loss splitting time between end and tackle, and earned MACJC All-State honors.

He’s already on campus and will participate in spring practice, giving the three-star prospect extra time to impress the defensive coaching staff heading into fall camp.

“We’ll know what to expect, especially the JUCO guys,” Swain said in January. “They’re expecting us to step in right now. I think it’s a big deal.”

“Swain’s a guy that we’ve known about for a long time,” Gus Malzahn said after Swain signed in December. “(Defensive line) Coach (Rodney) Garner recruited him at Georgia. I talked to him before he went to junior college. He’s a big, athletic guy that we feel like can come in and make an immediate impact up front because we are losing so many guys. So we’re tickled to death to have him.”
