Perhaps the most shocking – and ultimately embarrassing – Signing Day signing in recent years, Rashaan Evans picked Alabama over his hometown Tigers in 2014.
A five-star linebacker prospect rated 15th overall in the 2014 recruiting class by the 247Sports Composite, Evans was considered by many to be a lock to sign with Auburn.

After all, he’s from Auburn. His father went to Auburn. He probably would have played more as a true freshman at Auburn – even though defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson wanted Evans to play the Star position, and the Tigers were returning starter Robenson Therezie and top reserve Justin Garrett.
Therezie didn’t start the season opener against Arkansas because he hadn’t been cleared of an eligibility issue until the night before the game and the Tigers lost top pass rusher Carl Lawson in the spring to a torn ACL, which necessitated a restructuring of the defensive line.
With Evans in the mix, it’s possible Cassanova McKinzy could have stepped into a starting spot at defensive end, making room for Evans as a starting linebacker.
But all of that doesn’t matter, because Evans signed with the Tide instead.
To make matters worse, Eavns’ decision to sign with Alabama over Auburn will also be linked to the fact that the official Auburn sports website, www.auburntigers.com, posted a bio and video for Evans prematurely.
He didn’t play a ton on defense for Alabama last season, but showed flashes of brilliance – especially on special teams – and has a bright future.
