After never playing San Jose State before, the Auburn Tigers will host the Spartans for the second consecutive season this October. Last year, the Tigers sputtered early before exploding in the 59-13 victory in Week 2.
SJSU is a program on the rise, but last season was a disappointment as the Spartans finished 3-9 overall. San Jose State returns one of the most experienced teams in the Mountain West in 2015 – particularly on offense, including a handful of talented skill position players.
Quarterback Joe Gray didn’t start against the Tigers last year, but emerged as the primary signal caller later on. He threw for 2,305 and 11 touchdowns and completed 63.6% of his passes. Gray is expected to have his top three receivers back next year as well. Tyler Ervin scored on a 75-yard touchdown catch against Auburn last year, and went on to become the leading rusher for the Spartans with 888 yards and four touchdowns. He added 306 receiving yards on 29 catches.
Still, Auburn should have little trouble beating SJSU for the second straight year.
