Yes, it would be easy to say I am most looking forward to Auburn’s first five-star recruit, Mustapha Heron, or any of the other talented players coming in next season. However, this isn’t just who I think will be the most improved or the best player next season. Horace Spencer is simply who I am most excited to watch play for Auburn next season.

I also considered Danjel Purifoy because I expect him to come out on a mission next season and really impress both Auburn fans and others around the SEC.

Jared Harper also has the potential to be a early contributor who could shock some people similar to how Bryce Brown did this season. I am certainly excited to see Auburn as a whole next season compared to this year, but Horace Spencer gets my nod at the end of this season.

Spencer came in as one of the biggest recruits that Auburn has had and was expected to contribute early and often this season. He was expected to be a high motor guy and significantly help Auburn’s front court. Honestly, I think Horace Spencer slightly under performed based on expectations, but he certainly showed that with improvement in a few areas, he will certainly be a very good player for Auburn and could dominate the SEC very soon.

Not only does Spencer have a ton of good skills such as his shot blocking and a late blooming offensive game involving a sweet hook-shot, but the freshman showed that he is willing to work on the things that he lacks. Towards the end of the season Spencer greatly improved his offensive game and started to foul slightly less.

After the early exit from the SEC Tournament, Spencer was one of the few players that was playing hard in that game and seems ready to really work in the off-season so that he can get better so Auburn can improve as a team. If Spencer can work on his fouling issues this off-season, along with continuing to develop an offensive game, he will be a great player next season.

I like Spencer’s attitude and I think that can often be more important than certain skills. With Spencer’s good attitude and great skill set, I can’t wait to see how he puts the two together next season and in future years.

At this point, Horace Spencer could be Auburn’s next player in the NBA.
