Josh Donaldson

The reigning AL MVP award winner is backing it up by putting together a great 2016 season as well. Josh Donaldson has blasted 17 home runs through 273 at-bats for the Toronto Blue Jays, while hitting .282 with a .392 on-base-percentage. He’s also scored 61 runs and driven in 46, so he’s roughly on pace to put up the same numbers as he did in 2015, which could set him up to win back-to-back MVPs. That would make him the second Auburn Tiger to do so as Frank Thomas won back-to-back MVPs in 1993 and 1994 on the way to a Hall of Fame career.

As for the Blue Jays, they are currently five games over .500 and sit 3.5 games back of the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East. Hopefully Josh has an even better second half and can carry the Blue Jays back to the postseason.

David Ross

Someone who shouldn’t have a problem making it to the postseason this year is David Ross. The veteran catcher is on a Chicago Cubs team that has the best record in all of baseball. As for Ross, he’s played in 39 games this year with a solid .245 average and 6 home runs. He is also getting on base 36 percent of the time, which isn’t too shabby for a 39-year-old catcher.

I didn’t think that Ross would get much playing time this year for the Cubs, but he’s proved invaluable to the best team in all of baseball. Not only with what he’s done at the plate, but how he’s helped that Chicago pitching staff just dominate. He was the catcher earlier this year when Jake Arrieta threw a no-hitter. If this is Ross’ last year, it looks like it’s going to be a fun one.

I’m sure there are some that I have looked over as it’s hard to keep up with all the former Tigers that have made it to the big leagues (and I have missed any please let me know on Twitter @FlyWarEagle).

So as the summer goes on make sure you keep on an eye on the players listed above as we continue to cheer on all the Tigers in the big leagues.

War Eagle!
