College Football Countdown: Ranking Difficulty of Each Auburn Opponent
10 – Vanderbilt: Level 4
Auburn football will finally get its long awaited revenge against the Commordores in 2016 after losing to Vanderbilt in their past two meetings
Vanderbilt has still yet to win a game in Auburn, Ala., and after a 4-8 season in the SEC East last year I don’t see them upsetting the Tigers on The Plains this season.
They do, however, return eight starters on offense and seven on defense. The bad news is those offensive players only averaged 15.2 points a game last year, and they have to find a new quarterback.
Running back Ralph Webb returns after rushing for 1,152 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2016 and is by far their best offensive weapon.
The defense wasn’t terrible in 2016 giving up just 21 points a game, their best per game average since 2012 when they went 9-4 and beat Auburn 17-13. Linebacker Zach Cunningham returns after leading the team in tackles a year ago with 103 to go along with 4.5 sacks and 12 tackles for a loss.
Auburn football will be playing this game after traveling to Ole Miss the week before, and it comes right before the rivalry game in Athens. It’s possible this could be a letdown game for Auburn either coming off a loss or big win at Ole Miss, and then trying to prepare for another big game against Georgia.
That’s the only thing that worries about this game, as Auburn football is clearly the superior team and should win this game easily.
Chances of winning: 88 percent
