Top Plays for Auburn Football in Win Over Arkansas State
Auburn football could have filled up the Top 10 on ESPN’s top plays Saturday night with several highlight reels.
One thing that was missing from last year’s Auburn football team was the explosive play ability that so frequently happened in previous years under Gus Malzahn.
Instead of looking for the 30-yard pass downfield, we were running for three or four yards up the middle, or completing bubble screens for a few yards.
Auburn displayed their big play ability on Saturday night against Arkansas State with some huge plays.
Enjoy some of these highlights from AL.com.
Early in the first half Kerryon Johnson made an incredible run for a 47-yard touchdown.
On 3-and-5 with the game tied at zero, Sean White was in the middle of being sacked when he pitched the ball to Johnson. You can see for yourself in the video how that turned out.
First of all, this was a heads up play by White. This is what I’ve been telling people since that game. He made a lot of good decisions with the football, and avoided a lot of negative plays.
He could have easily just taken the sack here and Auburn would have had to punt, but he put the ball in the hands of Auburn’s best play-maker.
Johnson had fumbled on Auburn’s first drive, so he was determined to make up for it here.
This was just an amazing run, and one we’ll see on the highlights for years.
On Auburn’s very next possession, freshman wide receiver Kyle Davis made one of the best catches we’ll see all season.
This was a first down throw and I really couldn’t believe Sean White threw the ball as Kyle Davis was covered by two guys.
I was at the game and when he was coming down I sat back in my seat because I knew it was an incompletion. It wasn’t until the crowd started roaring that I realized he caught the football.
They showed the replay several more times on the video board and I still don’t understand how he came down with the football.
That was the only catch of the night for Davis, but it sure was a good one.
(Sorry, this was the only video of the fake field goal I could find on YouTube)
This play also came in the first half when the game was still somewhat in reach for Arkansas State.
Everyone in Jordan-Hare Stadium assumed Daniel Carlson would just trot out onto the field and complete another field goal.

Nobody knew that the coaches had drawn up a perfect fake field goal.
It was surprising enough watching it live, in the stadium, but seeing the replay shows how beautiful it really was.
The holder actually tossed the ball right over a defender who was running up behind him. The ball landed right in Carlson’s hands and he ran for the touchdown.
The Auburn crowd was already electric on Saturday night, but those three plays nearly shook the stadium.
