With no Auburn football this weekend, we take a look at several games that Auburn fans need to keep an eye on as to how they impact the Tigers’ season.

Auburn football will be on a bye this weekend, but there are still several games that will affect the Tigers the rest of the season.

With a 2-1 record in SEC play, Auburn is very much in the race for the SEC West title. They need some help from other teams as Texas A&M remains two games ahead of Auburn.

However, there is still a lot of football to be played, and a lot of the games this weekend will have a major impact on Auburn’s season.

Here are some games Auburn fans should be watching this weekend:

Mississippi State at BYU – Friday – 9:15 p.m. CT – ESPN

Don’t underestimate the win on the road against Mississippi State – that was a big win for the Tigers.

However, the Bulldogs are not a great team this year and won’t exactly boost Auburn’s resume. But if they can get a big win on the road against BYU, they have a chance to reach a bowl game, which makes that game last weekend a much bigger win.

NC State at Clemson – 11 a.m. CT – ABC

Auburn has two losses this season, but right now they can boast that both of those losses were to top six teams.

Even though Clemson got out to a rough start, I think they are still one of the best teams in the country, and Auburn had a chance to beat them.

I think it’s important that Clemson keep winning games and making Auburn look good.

Alabama at Tennessee – 2:30 p.m. CT – CBS

It’s always great when one of your SEC West enemies has a chance to be beaten by someone from the SEC East.

There aren’t many teams that can take down Alabama, but Tennessee is certainly one of them. If the Volunteers can upset the Crimson Tide at home, it will go a long way in helping Auburn win the SEC West.

Ole Miss at Arkansas – 6 p.m. CT – ESPN

Auburn still has to play both of these teams, but the more immediate threat is Arkansas. The Tigers will face the Razorbacks at Jordan-Hare Stadium after the bye week.

I think if you’re an Auburn fan you want to see Arkansas come away with the upset here for two reasons.

One, you want Arkansas to be ranked when Auburn plays them next weekend. And two, Ole Miss is probably the better team and more dangerous threat in the SEC West.

These are the most important games that Auburn fans should be watching this weekend. Each of those games will have an impact on the Tigers in 2016.

I wouldn’t suggest watching this game, but I’d keep an eye on how Arkansas State does against South Alabama. Even though they started the season 0-4, the Red Wolves are 1-0 in Sun Belt play and could change the perception of that team by winning the conference.

This is isn’t college basketball where it’s necessary to build a good resume in order to make the tournament, but it does say a lot about your football team at the end of the season if everyone you played had a good year.

Right now the opponents that Auburn has faced this season have a combined record of 19-13. That’s helped by the fact that they’ve played two teams that are both 6-0.

Those things matter when it comes down to deciding who gets ranked where, and when deciding what bowl game a team gets.

I know it’s a bye week for Auburn football and you may have plans to go out of town. But if you’re like me and love watching all kinds of college football teams play, these are the games you need to pay attention to as an Auburn fan.
