Auburn Defense

The Auburn defense played its most impressive game of the season against Arkansas last week holding a very good offense to just 3 points.

We’ll see if they can duplicate that performance against another very good offense this weekend in Ole Miss.

Auburn now ranks third in the country giving up just 14 points per game. They moved all the way up to 18th in the country giving up just 328 yards per game now.

You really can’t say enough about how well this defense has played this year, but they’ll be tested this weekend.

Chad Kelly is a gunslinger who will get his yards. Much like how Auburn did against Arkansas, they’ll have to pressure Chad Kelly to get rid of the football or bring him down.

Every team that has beaten Ole Miss this year has gotten at least 2 sacks, so I think Auburn needs to get at least three in this game.

If I’m Ole Miss I wouldn’t even bother trying to run against Auburn. That’s not something they do well anyway, and Auburn has gotten better each week at plugging up the line of scrimmage.

That being said, our cornerbacks, linebackers and safeties will be tested in this game. We know Carlton Davis is going to lock down one side of the field, Joshua Holsey and others will have to do their part on the other side.

I really thought Javaris Davis played exceptionally well against Arkansas and has gotten better all season.

The mismatch comes with Evan Engram lining up against our linebackers. That is a battle that just about anyone will lose. Our guys have to do a good job of limiting his catches, and bringing him down when he does catch a pass.
