Auburn Offense

There is no denying that the offense has gotten better since Rhett Lashlee took over play-calling duties. They are now averaging over 35 points a game on the season and have scored at least 38 points in their last three games, going over 50 points in two of those games.

The main reason for that turnaround is that we went back to just running the football. Auburn now ranks third in the country averaging 302.9 rushing yards per game. That number is helped by the fact that Auburn ran for 543 yards against Arkansas – without its best running back.

Kerryon Johnson should be ready to go this weekend and can lighten the load that’s been put on Kamryn Pettway.

Don’t get me wrong, Pettway has been great, but I think our running game is even more dynamic with Kerryon Johnson healthy and effective.

Look for those two to have a field day this weekend against an Ole Miss team that ranks 116th in the country against the run giving up an average of 226.9 rush yards per game.

We also saw against Arkansas how effective Stanton Truitt and Eli Stove can be in the running game, but that’s not something I would rely on. I think it just helps keep the defense off kilter.

We didn’t get to see much from Sean White against Arkansas, but I didn’t think he looked great in the few passes he threw. I’d like to see him open things up a little more against Ole Miss this weekend.

The Rebels have struggled to stop the pass as well, giving up 229 yards per game through the air.

Look for Tony Stevens and Ryan Davis to have big days.
