Ole Miss Defense

The Rebels have been a mess on defense all season giving up an average of 31.4 points per game, including 34 and 38 the past two weekends.

They’re also allowing 456 total yards per game this year with 226.9 coming on the ground and 229 through the air. They’re actually giving up more yards per game than they’re gaining, that’s ridiculous.

They’ve given up scores on 25-of-28 redzone attempts, with 18 of those being touchdown scores. That bodes well for Auburn’s offense that has struggled in the redzone at times.

There are two names for the Ole Miss defense that you need to familiarize yourself with and those are DeMarquis Gates and Marquis Haynes.

Gates is a linebacker who leads the team in tackles with 44 despite missing one game for a suspension. He also has 4 sacks.

Haynes is one of the best defensive ends in the country and leads the team with 5 sacks and 7 tackles for a loss.

You may remember that Haynes is the one who blew up Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts about a month ago:

Zedrick Woods is the leader in the secondary with 42 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and 2 interceptions.

Outside of those three, there really isn’t much to worry about on the Ole Miss defense. Our offensive line will have a hard time trying to keep Marquis Haynes out of the backfield though.

This defense was torched by LSU and Leonard Fournette last weekend, and I expect Auburn to do much of the same against them this weekend.
