Game Preview

This Ole Miss matchup is pretty much exactly the same as what Auburn faced a week ago against Arkansas. The Rebels have a very good offense, but can’t stop the run to save their lives.

More from Fly War Eagle

You would have to think that Auburn matches up well with Ole Miss like they did against Arkansas.

Coming into the season I was a bit worried about this game, especially with it being on the road. Seeing how bad this Ole Miss defense is though, and how great Auburn has become at running the football, it would be disappointing to lose this one.

The key in the game on defense will be to limit the explosive plays. That’s all Chad Kelly and that offense are looking to do. They will air it out all game and hope their receivers can break one or two and take it to the house.

If Auburn can force Chad Kelly to get rid of the ball early it will help limit them throwing the ball downfield.

Tackling will be key – shocker, it’s football – in this game as well because Chad Kelly and Evan Engram are big boys that don’t go down easily. Our linebackers will need to do a good job of wrapping up both of them.

On offense we just have to stick to the game plan. Hopefully Kerryon Johnson will be healthy and be able to open things up on the outside, but I think Kamryn Pettway can pound his way up the middle at will.

As usual, if Sean White can show that he’s capable of completing a couple of passes – he has one of the best completion percentages in the conference – then that should keep the defense off balance enough for us to run the football.

It’s amazing how the confidence in this game has shifted in two weeks. Before Ole Miss lost to Arkansas and LSU – and we destroyed Arkansas – I think the Rebels would have been a big favorite in this game. Now Auburn pretty much has to win this game.
