No. 4 – P Trey Wingenter, San Diego Padres

Wingenter, a 6-7 flamethrower, was drafted in the 17th round by the Padres in 2015, and while he only made a brief appearance for the AA San Antonio Missions in 2016, he’s considered one of the top minor league prospects for a team in search of pitching.

Wingenter spent most of 2016 with the Lake Elsinore Storm in the California League, where he went 2-1 with 4 saves and a 2.03 ERA in 30 games. He struck out 46 in 44.1 innings. For his entire minor league career, he’s got 81 Ks in 77 innings.

Drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 36th round out of high school, Wingenter pitched from 2013 to 2015 with Auburn, going 3-7 in 40 games with 4 saves. He’s actually performed better in the minors than in college, so if the trend continues, he’s be a big boost to the Padres bullpen.
