Here we discuss Auburn baseball‘s recent series against Presbyterian, where the Tigers took two out of three from the Blue Hose.

The Auburn baseball team came back to win two out of three against the Presbyterian College Pale Hose this weekend, moving to 12-5 overall as it readies for SEC play.

Again, the bullpen was to blame for the loss. Unlike the first three weeks of the season, it was Sunday’s starting pitcher with the top performance from the mound.

In Friday’s opener, ace Keegan Thompson finally gave up an earned run, but he pitched into the eighth inning and left the game with a 7-4 lead.

Auburn led going into the ninth inning up by four runs, but relievers gave up seven runs in the ninth inning, and the offense was unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the inning for an 11-8 loss. Calvin Coker took the loss after giving up six hits and five runs in one inning.

Catcher Blake Logan hit a two-run homer in the opener and went 2-for-4 while Daniel Robert continued his strong start to the season with two hits and three RBIs.

The Tigers overcome four errors in Saturday’s game to score four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 7-5 win. Pitcher Casey Mize pitched the first 6.2 innings and struck out 10, but the three runs he gave up were unearned due to the defensive miscues.

Centerfielder Jonah Todd had three hits and three runs, and third baseman Casey Anthony responded with two hits and three RBIs. His bases-loaded walk in the eighth started the comeback, and Robert followed with a two-run single.

In Sunday’s game, freshman Davis Daniel pitched six innings, giving up just three hits and striking out eight to earn his first college win. Daniel’s performance gives Auburn hope that it’s found a strong No. 3 starter.

Designated hitter Conor Davis, a freshman from Roswell, Georgia, was the only Auburn batter with two hits, and he also had two runs and an RBI. Sunday’s game was Presbyterian’s chance to fumble the ball, as it had five errors.

Auburn returns to Plainsman Park on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. game against UAB. Its first SEC conference series is this coming weekend at home against Florida, currently ranked No. 2 in the country.

Florida is also 12-5 on the season, having lost two to Florida Gulf Coast University last week and taking two of three from Seton Hall University.
