3. Fred Beasley, fullback, San Francisco 49ers

Fred Beasley, a Montgomery native, was drafted in the sixth round, 180th overall, by the San Francisco 49ers, in 1998 after spending four years on the Plains. In his Auburn career, he rushed for 1,241 yards and 18 touchdowns.

With the 49ers, Beasley was primarily used as a fullback, and he spent eight years in San Francisco, playing in 114 games and starting 80. The team made the playoffs three times during his tenure. In 2003, he was selected to the Pro Bowl. He was also an All Pro in 2002 and 2003.

Beasley’s selection in the sixth round earned him the No. 6 spot on a list of the top 10 49ers draft picks of all time. He was considered one of the best blocking fullbacks during his time in the NFL.
