4. Fred Baxter, tight end, New York Jets
Fred Baxter was selected in the fifth round, 115th overall, in the 1993 draft by the New York Jets after a three-year career at Auburn as a tight end. With the Tigers, Baxter caught 57 passes for 767 yards and three touchdowns.
Baxter played 11 years in the NFL, with the first nine seasons with the Jets as one of their tight ends while also playing on special teams. In 1996, he was the Jets special teams MVP with 18 tackles. His best receiving season was in 1997 when he caught 27 passes for 276 yards and three scores.
During Baxter’s last season in the NFL, he played 12 games for the New England Patriots 2003. That team went 14-2 and won the Super Bowl defeating the Carolina Panthers.
During the end of his playing days, he created the Fred Baxter Foundation, which still helps children today.
