4. Returning coordinators

Isn’t nice to know your coordinators aren’t scrambling to install their systems over the summer?

Kevin Steele returns as defensive coordinator for the third consecutive season. It’s the first time Auburn’s defensive coordinator is back for season No. 3 since Ted Roof spent three years on the Plains from 2009 to 2011.

In his first season, Steele led the Auburn defense to a significant turnaround. The Tigers allowed 361.9 yards per game a year after allowing 405.2 per game under Will Muschamp, who made a one-season stop in Auburn. Last season, Auburn was better — the Tigers allowed just 319.4 yards per game.

Chip Lindsey upped Auburn’s offensive production in Year 1 after replacing long-time Malzahn assistant, Rhett Lashlee. The Tigers improved in points (33.9 per game from 31.2), total yards (451.6 from 440.8) and passing (233.4 from 169.6). Rushing yards were down, but the Tigers still managed 218.3 per game.
