If you love Auburn football then you probably remember how your love story began. I am the daughter of an Auburn graduate with an extreme love for everything Auburn and was indoctrinated at an early age.

Aside from attending the last Legion Field Iron Bowl as a 4 year old, my earliest Auburn memory took place when I was 5. It was Fall 1999 and I was in kindergarten playing on the playground when two first-grade boys came up to me.

“Who do you go for: Auburn or Alabama?” they asked.

Confused, I told them I liked Alabama because I knew I lived there. That was all well and good except there was one problem: My parents had dressed me in an over-sized Auburn shirt that had a large plush Aubie on the front. Later, when my father picked me up I told him that I learned on the playground that I go for Alabama. He nearly lost control of the vehicle and moved over to the shoulder of the road. I don’t remember what he said, but the message was clear — in our house we pulled for Auburn.

That was just the beginning of my love story.

Throughout my childhood and adolescence my love for Auburn would only grow deeper. In 2002 my father was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis and I nearly lost him when his heart stopped during surgery. I was an 8 year old faced with the grim possibility of losing her father. When God and a skilled team of cardiologists gave my father a second chance, I was sure to make the most of it. Every Saturday I spent as much time with my father as possible which meant we began watching a lot of Auburn football together.

My obsession with Auburn was instant and when my father was cleared to travel by his doctor he immediately took me there. I remember my first Tiger Walk, eagle flight, Toomer’s Corner roll and campus walk-through. I also remember the homesick feeling that hit me in the gut when it was time to leave.

From 2012-2016 I followed that gut feeling and called Auburn home. My time as an Auburn student was indescribable and I fully immersed myself in the Auburn experience by being a rabid Auburn fan. I lived and died by Auburn in sickness (2012) and in health (2013), pledged a sorority, and joined organizations like FLP, AUDM, Mortar Board and many others. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and in my spare time I enjoy following Auburn athletics and talking/tweeting about Auburn. I look forward to bringing my talents to Fly War Eagle as a contributor, sharing my love for Auburn, and interacting with all of you!
