Davey O’Brien Award

The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award is given each year to the nation’s best quarterback. This season, 26 quarterbacks were named to the preseason watch list for the award, including a pair of two-time semifinalists in Alabama QB Jalen Hurts and Washington QB Jake Browning.

Auburn QB Jarrett Stidham made the watch list.

Stidham is one of six quarterbacks on the list, joining Hurts, Missouri’s Drew Lock, Mississippi State’s Nick Fitzgerald, South Carolina’s Jake Bentley and Georgia’s Jake Fromm.

To make the watch list, a quarterback had to start at least one game the previous season.

Auburn has one Davey O’Brien Award winner. Cam Newton won the award in 2010 when he led the Auburn football team to the BCS national title. Newton also won the Heisman Trophy that season.

Sixteen semifinalists will be revealed Nov. 6 and three finalists will emerge Nov. 19. The winners is announced on the Dec. 6 Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN.
