Preseason All-SEC (Athlon)

Really, it’s as if all the media outlets picking All-SEC teams got together and said “let’s not put any Auburn football players on the first team.”

There’s no other explanation for the absence of first-team Tigers. But here we are … again.

Second-team

WR Ryan Davis
DL Derrick Brown
LB Deshaun Davis
DB Jamel Dean

Third-team

QB Jarrett Stidham

Now, here’s what you’re missing on the Athlon list: Like Steele, it goes four teams deep. So there are not only zero Auburn players on the first team, there aren’t any on the fourth team, either. In total, that’s five Auburn players on Athlon’s All-SEC team.

You know how many of the 14 SEC teams had fewer players selected?

One. Just one! Of course, it was Vanderbilt. (LSU also only had five as well).

But that means Tennessee, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Missouri, Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama each had more.

Chew on that.
